Master in Engineering Sciences, mention in Extractive Metallurgy

The principal aim of this Master program in Engineering Sciences, mention in Extractive Metallurgy is to promote the training of human resources of highest quality able to do contribute to technological, professional and economic development related to extractive metallurgy.

For this aim, this program proposes: to provide a higher education imparted by experts who have postgraduate degree, a high research capability and a wide experience in the related field. In addition to face and solve the current and future technological challenges, and to ensure expertise for its students, either through active participation into established research groups, or through the technological development under an environment of mutual and integrated cooperation between academia and industry.

It is aim is to graduate, experts in Extractive Metallurgy, who have a wide knowledge about technological and scientific basis on this field, a professional who has the abilities to design, analyze and assess advanced metallurgical processes, in addition to formulate, implement and lead applied research and technological development projects.

There is a great variety of topics to be covered in this program; however, the most recognized and highlighted ones are related to copper production in its diverse areas (Mineral Processing, Pyrometallurgy, Hydrometallurgy and Electrometallurgy), due to the recognized importance of this metal on the economy and technological development of Chile, and also due to the strong collaboration experience that exists between national and international copper mining companies and academy. Besides,  an important research regarding to molybdenum and rhenium is being developed with producer companies of these metals in Chile.

Students wishing to apply for Master programs offered by the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Chile must have a bachelor or a professional degree in a similar area, granted by a national or international university certifying a solid background in the specific area of the Master program. The Academic Committee of the program will review each application taking into account all the required background.

Applicants have to submit all their educational records at the moment of applying. Some of them are:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Application Form
  • Transcript of records of the previous courses and their programs in case they come from other national or international universities.
  • Bachelor's or professional diploma
  • A letter of intention, and at least two letters of recommendation.
