Excelentes resultados obtuvo el DGF en el concurso Fondecyt 2017.
El viernes 21 de Abril recién pasado, Conicyt anunció la selección de proyectos Fondecyt de su concurso regular 2017. En la lista de proyectos destaca el Departamento de Geofísica de la Universidad de Chile con 8 proyectos seleccionados. Este número corresponde al 42% de los 19 proyectos adjudicados por el grupo de estudio de Ciencias de la Tierra a nivel global. Estos resultados son muy positivos para demostrar la investigación científica realizada en el DGF. La nómina de proyectos del DGF y su investigador(a) responsable es la siguiente:

- Prof. Eduardo Contreras: Seismic structure of the Nazca and Iquique Ridges and implications for hotspot magmatism and ridge-trench collision along the South American subduction zone
- Prof. Daniel Díaz: Modeling and comparison of magmatic structures related to Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes, Southern Andes
- Prof. René Garreaud: Changes in the ENSO modulation of central Chile hydroclimate: Anthropogenic interference in the South Pacific?
- Prof. Ricardo Muñoz: Mesoscale dynamics of Raco winds in Central Chile
- Prof. Maisa Rojas: Large-scale climate variatibility on the Southern Hemisphere throughout the Holocene
- Prof. Javier Ruiz: Understanding Mechanical Complexity of Subduction Zones through the Analysis and Modeling of Earthquake Source Parameters
- Prof. Sergio Ruiz: The relation among small, large and mega-earthquakes in Central Chile
